ROY BRINTON is an acknowledged expert on history of the Isle of Wight. He was born on the Island in East Cowes, and educated in Whippingham and Ryde, later joining the local history staff on the Isle of Wight County Counci before becoming Curator of the Carisbrooke Castle Museum. He is well-known for his lectures on the Ryde area, and as the author of several books of old Isle of Wight illustrations, of which three were published by the Dovecote Press: Edwardian Island (1992), Victorian Island (1994) and Isle of Wight Century 1900-1999 (1999). He has recently been made Honorary President of Ryde Social Heritage Group.
